Two decades in the hospitality industry and a real whizz when it comes to numbers, Crystal is Erinvale Estate Hotel & Spa’s trusted Reservations Administrator. Crystal is always striving for growth and loves working closely with colleagues to ensure the ultimate guest experience for every one of the hotel’s visitors. Recently, we sat down with her to chat about her favourite aspects of the industry, upcoming trends, and the best piece of career advice she’s ever received.

What is your experience/how long have you been working in hospitality, travel, and tourism?

I’ve been working in the hospitality industry for more than 20 years. I started as a Front Office Receptionist and was then offered an opportunity to work in Reservations, and this is where I worked for the majority of my career.

What are the most rewarding aspects of your job?

The best part of my job is the opportunity to constantly learn and grow. The small wins are most rewarding.

What’s the best piece of advice you have received in your career?

Allow yourself the opportunity to learn from your mistakes. Having high standards can be motivating, but it’s important to allow room for growth and not to be too hard on yourself when you make a mistake.

What do you love most about the hotel/hospitality industry?

We learn important life skills like communication, practical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork. It also provides an opportunity to interact with people from diverse backgrounds.

What are the hottest trends in the industry right now?

Sustainability – particularly in terms of saving energy and waste management.
