Colleen Windell – Revenue Manager

A master in maintaining balance, Erinvale Estate Hotel & Spa’s Revenue Manager, Colleen Windell, spends her days perfecting the art of selling the right product to the right market at the right price. Ultimately, her job is to ensure our guests always feel they’re getting optimal value during their stay.


A catch-up under the oaks with Colleen Wendel

What is your experience, and how long have you worked in hospitality, travel and tourism?

I always say hospitality chose me. I had no experience in the industry when my CV fell into a GM’s hands. They called me in for an interview and offered me a job a few days later. It has been 12 years since my lucky break, during which I’ve worked as a receptionist, in group reservations and as a debtor’s administrator before finally taking on the role of revenue manager. It has been a wonderfully educational and interesting path, and I feel privileged to continue learning and improving.

How is tech changing the way you work?

There’s a large volume of data to analyse, and having a keen eye for detail is a key strength. Technology and revenue systems help with this, and they’ve evolved over the years to create a better and clearer approach to optimising revenue, especially regarding making strategic decisions.

What do you love most about the hospitality industry?

I love the people I work with. Every team I’ve enjoyed sharing many hours with has felt like a family comprising wonderful, unique individuals from different walks of life.

How do you handle the pressure during the peak and off-peak seasons?

Dealing with pressure is difficult for most people, but I’m a firm believer in making sure you set your goals and prioritise to ensure you don’t feel overwhelmed.
